Some Dearing Details
Where are we?
The Samuel Dearing House is just across the Mississippi River from downtown St. Paul, which is home to the Minnesota State Capitol, several colleges and universities, a number of hospitals, some fine museums, a thriving business district, some highly regarded theater and music venues, the Xcel Energy Center, and numerous restaurants and breweries.
We are a 5-10 minute drive from the shops and restaurants of quaint Grand Avenue and the sights of Cathedral Hill. We are about 15 minutes from Minneapolis and all it offers including the Minneapolis/St Paul International Airport.
Much of what the metropolitan area of the Twin Cities is known for is nearby but you may find you have no desire to leave our West Side neighborhood with its family-owned restaurants, ethnic groceries, and various shops. Several blocks away is Cherokee Park - the perfect destination for a ramble along the bluffs or a picnic. The near-by Smith Avenue High Bridge, with it's dramatic views over the Mississippi River, makes for an invigorating walk.
You may even decide not to leave The House. Then your biggest decision will be whether to relax in your nicely-appointed private room or in one of our comfortable parlours, porches, or lawns.
At The Dearing, we believe in second breakfasts, elevenses, afternoon snacks, and bedtime treats. A broad array of breakfast items and other goodies will be available for you to enjoy in our roomy kitchen or dining room, or to take to your room or one of the parlours.
Whether you are coming to town for a family event,
business or pleasure,
or just some quiet time alone,
we would be honored to host you!

This home is beautiful and Kathi was a pleasure to work with. There was a lovely shared area upstairs with coffee and snacks and Kathi was available and responsive to any questions that came up. The location was perfect for us and we'll definitely stay again in the future!

A truly thoughtful host, Kathi is warm and welcoming. The home itself is a really amazing place with rich history. We came to watch an NHL game and it was walking distance to the downtown arena. The breakfast was really nice and had a great variety. Overall, I was extremely happy with this place and would highly recommend.

Wow - it would be difficult to find a more gracious couple than Kathi and Randy. They made you feel like you were at home. Great accommodations, terrific breakfast and, even an evening piano serenade. Also, the cost of being there was more than reasonable and there's lots to do in the area. We will definitely return.

Kathi and Randy are wonderful people and welcoming hosts. The house is unbelievably beautiful and cozy. It’s location is convenient for anyone looking to explore downtown, and there’s a lovely park within walking distance down the hill by the river. They have several rooms ranging in size and price...One of the best AirBnB experiences I’ve had thus far. Highly recommended!

I had a truly wonderful stay at the Dearing House! First, the home and rooms are impeccably clean and historically furnished in the most enchanting way. Seeing the antique woodwork alone is worth the visit! Second, Kathi and Randy create an incredibly warm and welcoming experience. They provide the right amount of space to feel autonomous yet are always willing to engage in ways that feel comfortable and genuine. Third, and not least, this homestay is the perfect place to truly relax and be grateful. With the “cozy” dedicated space for guests to make coffee or grab a cookie, the breakfasts of homemade scones and accompaniments, and millions of little loving touches, this AirBB will feel like your home away from home. I absolutely recommend!

It seems when traveling there are numerous five star reviews and sometimes frankly I am left going OK this place is nice but not truly five star. But having spent a marvelous week while in MSP for work at this beautiful historic home with the consummate hosts, I can unequivocally say this is a 5 star stay and rating well deserved! The hosts were very attentive, kind and welcoming and there were so many lovely little touches such as evening snacks and homemade cookies...The home itself is a gorgeous Victorian and decorated beautifully for Christmas and I felt right at home. The bed and linens were very comfy and it was a nice, quiet city neighborhood close to downtown St Paul and MSP. Loved it and will stay again when in MSP.

Brought our Air BnB experience to a new level of 'outstanding'. The establishment's host and hostess have a gift for hospitality, truly making guests feel 'at home' and are kind beyond measure. Our stay included a wonderful accommodation of the George Mueller room, a full king-size bed, heated bathroom floor, beautiful period decorations and tasteful notes and reminders to 'be thankful and rest' throughout. Breakfast delights of scones, pumpkin bread, along with yogurt parfaits and juices/coffee/tea added to the ambience. And special home-made ice-cream with shortbread in the evening made for a cozy way to enjoy the full night of sleep! The hosts have an automatic 'chemistry' with their guests and make them welcome, always exceeding expectations. We will be back soon!

What a wonderful home! Timeless and cozy with beautiful antique furnishings. Kathi and Randy are the most loving people and accommodating hosts! They were available for any and every need. I felt truly welcomed and so lucky to have such a fantastic view of the city skyline. An ideal location away from city noise but still close enough to easily access the heart of Saint Paul. The Samuel Dearing House became my home away from home, and I would recommend again and again! Greatly looking forward to returning for another visit!

It's is an excellent place to stay. Kathi and Randy are very thoughtful and gracious hosts. Their home is lovely, and their "cozy" is stocked with tea, coffee, and other goodies. They have a wonderful mission of providing guests with a place to rest and be thankful. If you know anything about l'abri and the Schaeffers, then you will see some similarities here. Each room is dedicated to an important figure, such as George Muller or Charles Dickens, for the good they brought into the world. The price to quality of amenities ratio is very generous. If you are just looking for a nice place to stay at a reasonable price, this is perfect. If you want to have a meaningful place to stay, whatever your reasons for traveling may be, you will not find a better one than this!

This was by far the best house and host we have ever experienced. They are truly the nicest people. They took us on a tour right away, and genuinely cared about us and checked in consistently to find out if we needed anything. I absolutely would stay here again!! If I could give ten stars I would. Seriously, we were a bit nervous about staying with someone we didn't know, but they calmed our fears instantly. The suite was so incredible. The floors in the bathroom are heated! The shower has two heads on separate sides that makes you feel like you are in a spa. The beds were comfortable, and overall the house just has a very incredible feel. We felt right at home. Very restful and peaceful stay.
